Advocacy and support groups

The Community Alliance for Special Education is a nonprofit network that provides legal support and services to people with special needs and their families in the Bay Area.

Disability Rights California provides advocacy help for Californians with disabilities. Disability Rights California publishes the Special Education Rights and Responsibilities Manual, an informative guide to special education law and advocacy.

The Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund is a national civil and human rights law and policy organization that aims to advance the rights of people with disabilities through training, advocacy,public policy, and legislative work.

Parents Helping Parents, a nonprofit resource center, provides guidance and support to children with special needs and their families.

Children and Adults with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder is a national organization serving individuals with ADHD and their families.

The National Down Syndrome Society is the parent organization for local groups that offers support to persons with Down syndrome.

The Autism Society of America works to increase public awareness about the issues faced by people with autism, advocating for appropriate services, and providing  information regarding treatment, education, advocacy, and research.

The Learning Disabilities Association of America supports individuals with learning disabilities and their families through training and advocacy.

The Special Education Division of the Office of Administrative Hearings is a quasi-judicial court that provides adjudicatory, mediation, and settlement services in California.
